Emerald Cut Necklace: Pendant Design

How did we get the name “emerald cut”? It refers to the special way in which an emerald was cut to avoid damaging it while showing off its translucence and vibrant green color.

The emerald cut features cropped corners and a large, open, and inviting table. A defining characteristic of this style is that it offers an interplay of dark and light planes, a unique “hall of mirrors” effect. Emerald cut stones are known for their dramatic light flashes and elongated facets that deliver a sophisticated appearance and timeless appeal.

The History of the Emerald Cut Necklace: the Pendant

The emerald cut was very popular during the Art Deco period (1920 to 1939) and steadily added more facets. The emerald cut that we know today was marked in 1940. With precision, the stone is cut to display its clarity and beautiful color. However, this cut leaves no room for imperfections, as they would be quite visible inside the stone’s facets.

The modern emerald cut features step facets, which are stepwise positioned, featuring three rows of steps above and three below the stone. The emerald cut has 57 facets, divided into 25 on the top, 24 at the bottom, and 8 on the girdle. The effect is a stunningly beautiful stone like the one found in our Pixies Pendant Necklace.
