A Brief History of Emerald Cut Diamond Earrings

The emerald-cut diamond has origins dating back to the 1500s. Stonecutters first used this shape in emeralds, which is where the cut got its name. Emeralds with this new shape became more popular. 

Stonecutters love this shape because the cutting process uses low pressure, which reduces the risk of chips being made in the gems. The emerald-shaped diamond rose to prominence in the 1920s Art Deco era, due to its emphasis on clean lines and symmetry. Since the Roaring Twenties, the emerald cut like that of our Velez has remained among the most popular designs.
